Would we recommend it to everyone now? Yes, and very much so.

Our plan was quite simple – three days in Montenegro to relax, enjoy the sun, and see some places we previously only knew about from Google images.
After an early flight and car pick-up, we started our trip at Lustica Bay Marina (Hotel The Spot). Boats everywhere and big, impressive. If breakfast is important to you too, this place is a must. Next we went to Kotor. Beautiful! A UNESCO city hidden between mountains and water. Everything in Kotor is like in the pictures – only alive. People, streets, boats, cafes, markets, houses, history – everything mixes together and creates the feeling that you are in another world.
Accommodation: We booked through booking.com , looking for a bright place with a balcony and a view of the city. We wanted to be close enough to the center to go for walks in the evening.
We went to the beach in our backyard – a completely different experience. Compared to the narrow bathing areas in Montenegro, Latvian beaches seem like a luxury experience. A promenade street with a one-way road stretches along the water, and right next to it, over a small brick wall, there are bathing areas hidden – each one different. One is an asphalt pier for boats, where everyone covers their feet and sleeps. Another is just with stones, a third – with grass (where, it seems, dogs tend to leave their tracks), the next one has sand, then paid umbrellas, and yet another – a waiter who brings you drinks. The choice is wide, and the sun – very hot.
In the evening we went to the old town of Kotor – we definitely recommend it! The whole nightlife takes place here. The choice is wide – both for families with children and for travelers alone or with friends. The food offer – from pizzas to fine restaurants. Sigita said that she ate one of the best apple pies in her life here. The portions are huge, the prices are pleasant. However, we recommend that you check the Tripadvisor reviews of some places before choosing.

We recommend buying souvenirs at the market at the entrance to the Old Town Castle. From our experience, the prices here were the most affordable.
On the second day we went to Budva – great!
We had breakfast at a place we liked so much that we don't even want to reveal it. At the time we were there, the rating was 4.6 stars with 2124 Google reviews. Large and tasty portions, and a view that extends over the entire city, beaches and old town. The breakfast place is called Restoran Vista Vidikovac - we definitely recommend it!
Then we went to see the old town of Budva. We walked around, took a few pictures and then ran into the pier, where there were taxi boats lined up to take us on excursions. The 1-hour trip cost 40 EUR – a small private boat with a guide. Very easy and pleasant to see the city from the sea.
If you want to go to a private beach with limited people, a taxi boat can take you to the island of Sveti Nikola, where they will pick you up later. After the old town, we went to Jaz Beach, which is on the way back to Kotor. We didn't see much more of Budva, because we had enough of an impressive breakfast, a walk through the old town and a boat trip.
There are a lot of people on Jaz beach, but it's everywhere - don't waste time looking for an empty beach, but find the place you like best. The water is very pleasant. If Sigita could go in for a swim, then you definitely can too. Salty water and it will be difficult to get by without a chair and an umbrella (rent about 20–25 EUR).
In the evening – a walk along the Kotor promenade. Very romantic.
On the last day we went to Tivat, where we tasted national dishes in a home kitchen – a very tasty place. Restaurant Sidro . They cook like mom’s – hearty and delicious.
And then back to the beach – our goal was to relax, and we accomplished that: drinks by the sea and peace. Perfect.
Useful tips for traveling to Montenegro:
🛬 How to get there:
Direct flights to Tivat. From the airport to Kotor – about 20–30 minutes by car.
🚗 Car rental: Be sure to choose an automatic transmission - the streets are narrow and hilly. Prices vary and are affordable, so book a car in advance. Fuel is cheaper than in Latvia.
💶 Currency:
Euro. Cards are mostly accepted, but cash is better for small purchases in markets or on the beach.
🏖 Beaches:
Lots of rocky swimming areas – water shoes are useful. Sun loungers + umbrella cost ~20–25 € per day.
🍴 Food:
Portions are large, prices are reasonable. Worth trying: fresh seafood, čevapi , local wine and priganice (mini donuts).
📅 Best time:
May–June and September – warm days, fewer tourists. July/August very hot and crowded.
